Biography
Ruth Louise Grimm, aged 86, died July 16 at Greenfield Reflections home in Strasburg, VA.
She was born Ruth Louise Meyers, March 12, 1924, in Clifton, NJ. Ruth was an accomplished swimmer and boater and spent many summers at Swartswood Lake, NJ. She graduated from Clifton HS in 1942, and was involved in theatrical productions and fashion drawing.
Ruth was a dog lover all her life, had many wonderful companion dogs, and worked with her sister Betty and her brother Len in the dog fancy.
She was an avid horsewoman, rode and competed in English and Western events, especially with her beloved mare Chica. Ruth met her husband-to-be, Raymond Grimm, when they were both in the Mountain Rangers riding club in Mountain Lakes, NJ. Ruth and Ray were married on August 30, 1947 in Montville, NJ and honeymooned on Cape Cod. She was a homemaker, raising her two children in Towaco, NJ, and active in the PTA, 4-H and Girl Scouts.
Ruth and Ray moved to Virginia in the 1980s and lived in Lovettsville. Ruth worked as a docent at the Morven Park mansion in Leesburg.
Ruth was predeceased by her mother, Katherine Siems Meyers; her father, John Adrian Meyers, who emigrated from Haarlem, Holland; her brothers Henry, John, and Leonard Meyers; her sisters Catherine Langerlan and Elizabeth Thies; and her husband Raymond Harriman Grimm.
She is survived by her son, David Harriman Grimm, and grandchild Jacqueline Karbstein Grimm, both of Reston, VA; and her daughter, Amy Elizabeth Grimm, of Berryville, VA.
Arrangements with Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, VA will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to local humane societies or animal rescue groups, to honor Ruth's love of the animals that were so much a part of her life.
