How can I arrange for my funeral ahead of time and what is the advantage? There are several advantages to making funeral advanced arrangements. Making advanced arrangements allows a family time to consider options and decide what services are appropriate for them. It relieves the family members of the burden of making decisions at the time of death. It allows the family, as an act of love and consideration, to pre-pay the funeral expenses.
Please see Funeral Planning for additional information.
What are my payment options when making arrangements? Payment is due when arrangements are made. We accept cash, personal checks, major credit cards both Master and VISA, assignment of a verified life insurance policy or bank financing. If the funds are not available at that time we extend credit for a period of 30 days. If bank financing is necessary we can assist you.
What should I do if a death occurs out of town? Regardless of the day or time, or the locality where the death occurs, it is important to contact the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home first. We can then direct the necessary services on your behalf. Failure to contact us first may result in duplication of services and excess cost.

When a death occurs how many copies of the death certificate do I need? Until an estate starts to be settled you would not know how many you need. When you need to verify the death is when you need a certified copy of the certificate. Insurance companies, banks, loan companies, etc. all require a copy of the certificate. The certificate is filed at the health department and certified copies can be obtained when needed.
When I come to the funeral home what should I say to the family? By having visitation the family has invited you to share this time with them. Be yourself and relate stories or memories and kind words as they relate to the deceased. These fondest memories will be cherished by the family. We provide a Fondest Memories Program which you are invited to use.
Our school is offering a death and dying course. May we visit the funeral home? The Enders & Shirley Funeral Homes offer tours to any interested group or individual. Please call or Email us to make an appointment.

Cremation Questions
What is cremation and how will it effect my funeral wishes? Cremation is the reduction of human remains by direct flame. The process is done in the cremation chamber, also referred to as a retort. Once completed, the remaining bone fragments are reduced in size and placed in a temporary container for transportation or an urn. The selection of cremation as a step towards final disposition would not effect funeral wishes, as cremation can be done at several points in the funeral process.
Can I still have a funeral service with the body present if I choose cremation? All services, including embalming, casket selection, viewing and funeral service are available, even when cremation is chosen. Remember that cremation is final disposition just as burial.
Burial of cremated remains in an urn and an urn vault are also options to final disposition.
Is your crematory really at your funeral home? Our crematory is located at our Berryville facility and each cremation is personally conducted by one of our professional staff.
